About Us

FANYRide.com preserves information about The Great Big FANY Ride, a multi-day bicycle tour that challenged riders to travel approximately 500 miles across New York State. The original website documented annual editions of the ride, including its fifth year in 2005 and seventh year in 2007.

The purpose of this restored website is to keep the history of the FANY Ride accessible. The original event pages contained information about ride dates, registration, routes, preparation, accommodations, charitable contributions, and the experience of cycling across New York.

What Was the FANY Ride?

FANY represented Five Hundred Miles Across New York. The event brought together approximately 200 cyclists for a multi-day journey across the state. Historical material from the ride emphasized both the physical challenge of covering hundreds of miles and the enjoyment of exploring New York by bicycle.

The tour was not presented simply as a race from one point to another. It was a cycling experience built around spending several days on the road, traveling through New York, meeting other riders, and completing a demanding distance as part of a larger group.

Documented Years of the Ride

The surviving FANYRide.com pages provide clear information about several editions of the event. The fifth annual ride was promoted for July 24–30, 2005, while the seventh annual ride was scheduled for July 22–28, 2007.

By 2007, the event was still using the same fundamental format of approximately 500 miles across New York and around 200 participating cyclists. These records show continuity in the identity and purpose of the Great Big FANY Ride across multiple years.

Preserving the FANY Ride History

This restored version of FANYRide.com is intended as an informational record of the historical event. Dates, prices, registration periods, and other event-specific details presented on the site should therefore be understood in their original historical context.

The restoration is designed to make the story of the FANY Ride understandable to new visitors without pretending that archived schedules or registration information are current. It preserves the event’s identity, its connection with cycling in New York, and the details that made the Great Big FANY Ride distinctive.
